MEANING OF DRUG
Drug means any substance that is used to treat sickness or improve health.
EXAMPLES OF DRUGS USED FOR HEALTH
1. Paracetamol (for fever and pain)
2. Amoxicillin (antibiotic for infections)
3. Cough syrup
MEANING OF DRUG ABUSE
Drug abuse means using drugs in the wrong way, in excess, or without medical advice.
EXAMPLES OF DRUGS OFTEN ABUSED
1. Cigarettes / tobacco
2. Alcohol (beer, wine, spirits)
3. Cannabis / marijuana
4. Codeine syrup (when misused)
5. Tramadol or other painkillers when used wrongly
CONSEQUENCES (EFFECTS) OF DRUG ABUSE
1. Health problems (damage to liver, lungs, heart)
2. Addiction (becoming dependent on drugs)
3. Poor school performance or loss of job
4. Crime and bad behaviour
