PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. recite Suratul – Fatiha correctly in Arabic translation.

2. explain the meaning in English.

3. illustrate the importance and uses in the Muslim’s lives.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can memorize and recite Arabic text.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –

1. A copy of the Glorious Qur’an.

2. Recorded cassette of the Surah.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Suratul Fatihah is the first Surah of the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam.

It consists of 6 or 7 ayats which are a prayer for guidance and mercy.

The literal meaning is known as The Opener because it is recited in Muslim obligatory and voluntary prayers.

 

 

RECITATION OF SURATUL FATIHA

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Bismillah hir rahman nir Raheem 

 

 

1. بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

 

 

2. ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Alhamdu lillaahi Rabbil ‘aalameen

 

 

3. ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Ar-Rahmaanir-Raheem

 

 

4. مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Maaliki Yawmid-Deen

 

 

5. إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

Iyyaaka na’budu wa lyyaaka nasta’een

 

 

6. ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Ihdinas-Siraatal-Mustaqeem

 

 

7. صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

Siraatal-lazeena an’amta ‘alaihim ghayril-maghdoobi ‘alaihim wa lad-daaalleen

 

 

LESSON 2 – RECITATION AND TRANSLATION OF SURATUL FATIHAH

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

1. بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

 

2. ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Alhamdu lillaahi Rabbil ‘aalameen

[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds –

 

 

3. ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Ar-Rahmaanir-Raheem

The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

 

 

4. مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Maaliki Yawmid-Deen

Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.

 

 

5. إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

Iyyaaka na’budu wa lyyaaka nasta’een

It is You we worship and You we ask for help.

 

 

6. ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Ihdinas-Siraatal-Mustaqeem

Guide us to the straight path –

 

 

7. صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

Siraatal-lazeena an’amta ‘alaihim ghayril-maghdoobi ‘alaihim wa lad-daaalleen

The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Writes/displays chart showing Suratul – Fatiha on the board and recite slowly word by word.

3. Lets the pupils repeat after you as you recite it for the second time.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s recitation and recite as the teacher recite for the second time.

4. Asks the pupils to recite Suratul Fatihah in pairs and individually.

Pupil’s Activities – Recite after the teacher collectively.

5. Pinpoints the difficult words and pronounces them verse-by-verse.

6. Recite Surah aayah by aayah and asks pupils to recite it several times.

Pupil’s Activities – Recite the Surah several times to give room for memorization.

6. Tells them the times when the Surah can be recited.

Pupil’s Activities – Mention the times when the Surah can be recited.

7. Write the translation of Suratul Fatihah after each Arabic translation.

8. Explains the meaning and each verse recitation.

Pupil’s Activities – Recite and translate the Suratul Fatihah in English verse by verse.

9. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the lesson summary and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
