ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Pupils have previously learned about first aid, food nutrition, and healthy living. They know that first aid is given when an accident or injury occurs and that healthy habits help keep the body fit.

This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils how to prevent accidents before they happen through the practice of safety measures at home and in school. By following safety rules, pupils can protect themselves and others from injuries and dangers.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Every day, we carry out different activities at home and in school. If we are not careful, accidents such as falls, burns, cuts, electric shocks, and injuries may happen. We can avoid many of these accidents by following simple safety rules.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of safety, the types of safety, and the safety measures that should be practised at home and in school to protect lives and property.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF SAFETY

Safety is the act of protecting ourselves and others from danger, accidents, injuries, or harm.

Safety helps us to live, learn, work, and play in a secure and healthy environment.

TYPES OF SAFETY

1. Home Safety – This means protecting ourselves from accidents and dangers in the home.

2. School Safety – This means following rules that prevent accidents and injuries in the school environment.

3. Road Safety – This involves obeying traffic rules and using the road carefully to avoid accidents.

4. Fire Safety – This means preventing fires and knowing what to do if a fire occurs.

5. Personal Safety – This involves protecting ourselves from harm by making wise and safe choices.

LESSON 2 – SAFETY MEASURES AT HOME

1. Keep the floor clean and dry to prevent slipping.

2. Do not play with matches, candles, or fire.

3. Keep sharp objects such as knives and scissors safely.

4. Do not touch electrical appliances with wet hands.

5. Store medicines and chemicals away from children.

6. Keep the house neat and free from obstacles.

7. Report broken electrical wires or dangerous objects to an adult.

8. Lock doors and windows properly when necessary.

SAFETY MEASURES AT SCHOOL
