ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
Pupils have previously learned the meaning of religion, the types of religion practised in Nigeria, religious practices, and materials used for worship.
This lesson builds on that knowledge by helping pupils understand the similarities among different religions, their common beliefs, and their ways of worship.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Pupils have seen Christians, Muslims, and followers of African Traditional Religion worship in different ways. They have also noticed that people of different religions pray, read holy books, attend places of worship, and are taught to love, respect others, and do good.
In this lesson, pupils will learn the similarities among religions, their common beliefs, religious practices, and the different ways people worship in Nigeria.
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF SIMILARITIES IN RELIGION
Similarities in religion are the things that different religions have in common, even though they may have different beliefs and ways of worship.
COMMON BELIEFS IN RELIGION
Most religions teach people to:
1. Believe in God or a Supreme Being.
2. Love and respect one another.
3. Tell the truth.
4. Help people in need.
5. Live peacefully with others.
6. Avoid stealing and cheating.
7. Pray regularly.
8. Respect parents and elders.
LESSON 2 – COMMON RELIGIOUS PRACTICES
People in different religions often:
1. Pray.
2. Read holy books.
3. Attend places of worship.
4. Sing religious songs or hymns.
5. Fast on special occasions.

SUMMARY
In this lesson, pupils learned that similarities in religion are the things that different religions have in common. They learned that many religions teach people to believe in God, love one another, tell the truth, help those in need, respect parents and elders, pray regularly, and live peacefully.
