Lesson One – Addition of Fractions and Mixed Numbers

Lesson Two – Substraction of fractions and mixed numbers

Lesson Three – Mixed Operations of Addition and Subtraction of Fractions

Lesson Four – Revision and Test

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

LEARNING OUTCOME 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. add fractions and mixed numbers.

2. subtract fractions and mixed numbers.

3. carry out mixed operations involving addition and subtraction of fractions.

4. solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions.

RATIONALE

Fraction is part of a whole. Just like other numbers, we can add and subtract fractions – proper fractions, improper fractions and mixed numbers to/from one another.

The concept of addition and subtraction of fractions will enable the pupils to understand and appreciate the importance of adding and subtracting fractions.

LEARNING MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of fraction parts.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

The pupils have the basic knowledge of adding and subtracting fractions.
