TOPIC: Temperature
LEARNING AREA
- Lesson One – Idea of temperature
- Lesson Two – Mercury thermometer and Clinical thermometer
- Lesson Three – Relationship between degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit
- Lesson Four – Relationship between degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius
- Lesson Five – Revision and Test
TIME – 40 Minutes each.
LEARNING OUTCOME
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
- Recognise the idea of temperature.
- Compare degrees of hotness of various objects and areas (locations) in degree Celsius.
- Identify the mercury thermometer and read the thermometer.
- Identify the maximum and minimum thermometer the temperature of our environment, and interpret.
- Establish the relationship between degrees Celsius (ºc) and Fahrenheit (ºF).
- Identify the usefulness of temperature to our daily life.
RATIONALE
Temperature is the degree of hotness or coldness in a place or in the body. That’s, the atmospheric condition – hot (warm) or cold (cool). The concept of temperature will help the pupils to have the ideal of temperature in the body, of the sun and rain, boiling and freezing points, etc. and interpret the temperature in our environment.
LEARNING MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
- Thermometer
- Chart Showing Basic Unit of Temperature
- Warm or hot water
- Cold water or ice water
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold something is; that’s, the body’s temperature, the temperature of water, air, and other liquid. Temperature can be measured with a thermometer. The temperature of a substance is a measure of its hotness. When a substance is hot, the temperature is high and when the substance is less hot (cold), the temperature is lower. This is a general knowledge when walking in the sun or rain, boiling or freezing or water or other things.
