Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net.

The object of the game is to serve the ball to an opponent’s court in such a way that They are unable to return it. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules.

HISTORY OF VOLLEYBALL IN NIGERIA

It is not ascertain how and when exactly the game volleyball got to Nigeria. Many claimed to have played the game of volleyball as far back as early 1940s. The clear picture, however, has been the fact that the game was one of the recreational activities enjoyed by Nigerian mission schools, colleges and Armed Forces before well organised competitive volleyball started in the 1960s.

On May 27th, 1971, Nigeria played her first international volleyball match against Togo during the Olympic African zonal preminary knockout matches the 1972, Munich Games.
