LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain who a father is.

2. state ways to we show our thanks to God, our Father.

3. explain why they should thanks God for what God has done for them.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can state the Lord’s prayer.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. The Bible Psalm 121

2. Pictures/chart showing people giving thanks to God.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

The Lord’s Prayer 

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name, 

thy kingdom come, 

thy will be done, 

on earth as it is in heaven. 

Give us this day our daily bread. 

 

And forgive us our trespasses, 

as we forgive those who trespass against us. 

And lead us not into temptation, 

but deliver us from evil. 

For thine is the kingdom, 

and the power, and the glory, 

for ever and ever. Amen.

 

 

WHO IS OUR FATHER?

Our Father is the one we all come from and we are His children.

Our Father is the God we can depend on for everything and He is closer to us as we are close to our parents.

 

 

WAYS TO SHOW OUR THANKS TO GOD OUR FATHER

1. Obey the words of God our Father.

2. Verbally thank God our Father.

3. Give offerings to God our Father.

4. Thank people God our Father has used in your life.

5. Sing songs of thanksgiving.

6. Thank God our Father for the little and bigger things He had done for us.

 

 

LESSON 2 – REASONS WHY WE SHOULD THANK GOD OUR FATHER 

Bible Reading – Psalm 121

Thanking God our Father is a way of worshipping and praising God

1. for His Love

2. for His protection

3. for His provision

4. for His redemption

5. for His guidance

6. for His forgiveness

7. for answer to our prayers

8. for His plans for us

9. for His grace

10. for His joy and peace

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,

1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson review.

2. Leads the pupils to say the Lord’s Prayer correctly.

Pupil’s Activities – Say the Lord’s Prayer.

3. Uses the first line of the Lord’s Prayer to the lesson and explains the meaning of our Father.

4. Guides pupils to demonstrate how to thank God our Father.

Pupil’s Activities – State and demonstrate how to thank God our Father.

5. Discuss the reasons why we should thank God our Father for what He had done for us.

Pupil’s Activities – Mention the reasons why we should thank God our Father for what He had done for us.

7. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson summary and write as instructed.
