Lesson One – Introduction to Ratio in Its Lowest Form

Lesson Two – Applications of Ratio

Lesson Three – Ratio of Family Size and Resources, Ratio of two Population, Ratio of Prevalence of HIV/AIDS between Two Sexes or States

Lesson Four – Proportion – Direct and Indirect (Inverse)

Revision and Test

**TIME** – 40 Minutes each.

**LEARNING OUTCOME **

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. identify the meaning of ratio and simplify ratio in its lowest term.

2. apply ratio to real – life situations.

3. find the ratio of family size to their resources.

4. express two populations in ratio find the ratio of HIV/AIDS prevalence between sexes and states.

**RATIONALE**

Ratio is used to compare two or more things together. That’s, how much of one thing there is compared to another. Everyone wants the best values and quality, they want to maximize their available resources with unavailable resources or minimise cost for profit maximisation.

The concept of ratio will enable the pupils to understand, appreciate and apply ratio to everyday life.

**LEARNING MATERIALS **

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –

Population chart – total number of boys and girls in the classroom.

flashcards or related charts.

Data chart of HIV/AIDS prevalence.

Data chart on HIV/AIDS.

Charts with population figures.

A poster depicting two families, one smaller and happy and the other larger and unhappy.
