PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. define civic education.

2. state the reason why we study civic education.

mention topics learnt in primary 1 civil education.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Textbooks.

Pictures of a democratic activity and citizens performing some civic responsibilities in a democracy e.g. senate in session and people voting and campaign.

Video clips on democratic activities.

Radio Jingles.

Video clips, posters and pictures of public health enlightenment campaigns.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Displays a chart showing traditional and political leaders, law enforcement agencies, etc. for the pupils to identify and state their duties and responsibilities in our communities.

Teacher’s remark – Listen to them and introduce Civic Education as subject in the schools that teaches us our duties and responsibilities in the community as stated below –

MEANING OF CIVIC EDUCATION

Civic Education is a subject that teaches us our duties and responsibilities in the community.

In civil education, we learn our duties towards the government and our community. We also learn the duties of the government to towards us.

 

IMPORTANCE OR ADVANTAGES OF CIVIC EDUCATION

1. To understand democratic and civil rights and responsibilities.

2. Nurture and sustain democracy.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the meaning of civic education.

Pupil’s Activities – Listens to teacher’s explanations.

3. Guides discussion on the need for civic education.

Pupil’s Activities – Contribute to discussions.

3. Leads pupils to mention the topics and specific benefits of learning civic education.

Pupil’s Activities – State their democratic, civil rights and responsibilities.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
