THEME – WRITING 

TOPIC – RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STYLE, PURPOSE AND THE AUDIENCE 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. write their uncle, asking if they could spend their holiday with him.

2. write the same letter to a friend between the two types.

3. discuss one another’s efforts and evaluate them.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Course books and other relevant materials.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STYLE, PURPOSE AND THE AUDIENCE 

The audience is either a friend, a family member, a peer, a head teacher or a teacher.

 

FEATURES OF INFORMAL STYLE

These include personal constructions, e.g. I hope you will come.

 

FEATURES OF FORMAL STYLE 

These include impersonal constructions, e.g. It is hoped that you will come.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Prepares a list of suitable topics for creative writing.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to discussion by the teacher on the differences between formal and informal letters.

3. Lists the persons that could form the audience of each type of writing.

Pupil’s Activities – Write to different persons on the topic.

4. Decides with pupils the purpose of writing.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss whether the purpose of writing is likely to be achieved.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Pupils to write informal letters correctly.
