PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. describe the air.

2. feel the presence of air around them.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils know that we breathe in air and breathe our air.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Garden soil, glass, water, bowl. Sources of heat, balloons.

2. Bicycle tube.

3. Bicycle pump.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS 

Teacher’s Activities – Display a balloon with air inside and the pupils the following questions –

• What is this?

• What is inside the balloon.

• Mention other things that contain air.

Pupil’s Activities – Response to the teacher’s questions.

• Balloon

• Air

• Other things that contain air are – ball, tyre, toy, etc.

Note – accept the local (other) names of balloon, air and other things that contain air to encourage full class participation.

Teacher’s remark – Listen to the pupil’s response and gives your comments or contributions. Guide them to describe the air in poem.

DESCRIPTION OF AIR

We breathe in and breathe out air.

 

 

We cannot see air but feel when it blow.

Air has no colour, taste or odour.

All living things need air.

Man, animals and plants would die without it.

 

LEARNING 2 – PRESENCE OF AIR AND FEELING OF AIR 

Activity 1 

 

PRESENCE OF AIR

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guides and leads pupils to observe and describe the presence of air in the soil and boiling water.

Follow the steps 2, 3 and 4 in the below presentation. 

 

Activity 2 

 

FEELING OF AIR 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guide pupils to demonstrate how we can feel the Air using the following –

• Mouth

• Electric fan

• Hand fan

• Air in balloon

Follow the steps 5, 6 and 7 in the below presentation. 

 

Teacher’s remark – Encourage active participation in the above activities and note their observations and responses to questions on the board.

 

THINGS TO MAKE YOU FEEL THE PRESENCE OF AIR

We can feel the presence of air around us:

1. through the waving of hand – fans.

 

 

2. Blowing air from the mouth.

3. through standing or ceiling fans.

 

ASSIGNMENT

Find out the uses of air.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Pours garden soil into a glass of water.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe the activity set up by the teacher.

3. Guide the pupils to observe the bubbles as air escapes.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe and describe the results of the activities.

4. Heats some water in a bowl. Ask pupils to report what they observed (bubbles).

Pupil’s Activities – Observe and describe the results of the activities.

5. Brings a balloon and ask a pupil to blow air into the balloon to make.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe and explain why the size of balloon is big.

6. Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Observe and explain what they see.

 

 

7. Guides pupils to demonstrate how we can feel the air.

Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrate how we can feel the air.

8. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
