By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. differentiate between employment and unemployment;

2. discuss the problems of unemployment.

3. state the reasons why people should be employment.

Most of the pupils can describe their parent’s work.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts of different work.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Employment is a relationship between employer and employee.

To employ someone is to pay them to work.

An employer provides employment to employees.

 

WHO IS AN EMPLOYER AND EMPLOYEE? 

Employer is a person, government, company, or organization who employs and pays people for work.

Employee is a person who gets paid to work for a person, government or company.

 

 

MEANING OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is work done to earn a living.

 

WHY PEOPLE SHOULD BE WORKING OR GET EMPLOYED? 

People should be employed is –

1. To earn a living.

2. To contribute to the development of a community.

3. To provide for others.

4. To satisfy one’s needs.

 

 

LESSON 2 – UNEMPLOYMENT

Unemployment is having no work to do to earn money.

 

 

THE PROBLEMS THAT LEADS TO UNEMPLOYMENT OR CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT 

Unemployment is one of the major challenges in Nigeria because of the following –

1. Low level of education

2. Lack of education and training

3. Inadequate training

4. Labour demand and requirements

5. Supply mismatch

6. Global recession

7. Lack or insufficient fund

8. Slow economy growth

9. Gender discrimination

10. Mental issues

11. Physical health challenges

12. Racism

14. High birth rate (population)

LESSON 3 – WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS OF UNEMPLOYMENT? 

1. Increase of crime rate – armed robbery, human trafficking, prostitution, drug addiction, etc.

1. Self employment skills

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays chart showing different professions.

3. Lets pupils identify and state their own preferable profession with reasons.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify the teacher, doctor, lawyer, etc. and also mention one preferably profession with appropriate reasons.

4. Asks pupils to state their parent’s work or profession.

5. Asks pupils if their work for people, themselves or people work for them.

6. Uses pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson and lead a discuss on the meaning of employment and the relationship between employer and employee.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the relationship with their parents and their parents or people that work for them.

7. Leads pupils in group or pair to discuss on why people work.

8. Asks pupils if there are pupils in their family, compound or community looking for job or yet to get a job.

9. Uses pupil’s responses to leads a discussion on the meaning of unemployment and its causes.

10. Lists and discuss the problems and solutions of unemployment with the pupils;

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the problems of unemployment with appropriate solutions.

11. Summarizes each lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
