PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. state five of the role of religious bodies in Nigeria.
2. state how religious conflicts can be controlled.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing different people with tolerance one another.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LEARNING AREA – INTRODUCTION
REVIEW OF PREVIOUS LESSON – Concept (Types) of Religion and Religious Beliefs | Religion Tolerance and Religion Intolerance | Importance of Tolerance | Causes and Problems of Religion Intolerance Primary 5 (Basic 5) – Social Studies
Religion is the belief in and worship of God or gods. There are three types of religion in Nigeria – Christian, Muslim and Traditional religions.
Religious tolerance is the ability to accept that other people have the rights to practice their own religion.
The major causes of religious Intolerance are Ignorance, Impatience, Selfishness and Ethnicity.
The inability to accept other people’s religion practices have resulted in unfriendly relationships, rioting, destruction of lives and properties, reduce economic activities, public disturbances, hatred, etc.
LESSON 2 – HOW TO CONTROL RELIGION INTOLERANCE
1. Education
Educating people on the evil of not tolerating one another.
2. Law and Order
Setting up law and order that will will make people to respect and accept one another.
3. Role of make the causes of religious problems a crime.
4. Non – government organizations – they can prevent religious Intolerance by their activities.
LESSON 3 *RELEVANT VALUES OF RELIGIOUS DIFFERENCES
The roles of religious bodies and every Nigerians are to preach and practice,
1. Love one another.
2. Respect one another.
3. Peacefully coexistence.
4. Unity
5. Cooperating with one another.
6. Understanding one another.
7. Settlement of dispute among one another.
8. Protect and defend one another.
9. Acceptance
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Asks pupils to recite National pledge and anthem.
Pupil’s Activities – Recite National pledge and sing the National anthem.
3. Explains what constitute religious Intolerance.
Pupil’s Activities – Pay visit to churches and mosques and discuss with religious leaders about what they are doing to reduce religious Intolerance.
4. Summary the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
