By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. identify and list raw materials used for producing clothing and medicines.

2. discuss the benefits of clothing and medicines.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can state the importance of clothing and medicines.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. textile materials, thread, etc.

2. root, leave and herbs.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Agriculture impacts society in many ways, some of the ways are for making clothing and medicine. Agriculture provides raw materials used for making clothes we are wearing now and medicines for treatment ourselves when we are sick.

 

AGRICULTURE AS A SOURCE OF MATERIAL FOR CLOTHING 

Clothing are things that wear to cover, protect and beautify our body.Cotton, fibre and silk are the most important materials used for making clothes. The clothes we wear are made from plants.

 

 

Other materials such as wool, hides and skills come from animals rearing. Materials from the animals are used for producing clothing, shoes, belts, and bags.

Agriculture provides clothing materials from plants and animals. The first clothes are made from animal’s skin.

 

BENEFITS OF CLOTHING 

The Importance of clothing are as follows:

1. It covers our body and nakedness.

2. It keeps us warm during cold and against harsh weather.

3. It protects our body against insect bites.

4. It is used as fashion.

5. It is used for dressing wound.

6. It is used for making face mark. Face mark is used preventing communicable diseases such as corona virus.

 

 

LESSON 2 – AGRICULTURE AS A SOURCE OF MATERIAL FOR MEDICINES 

Medicines are substances used for any treating sickness and diseases such as lowering blood pressure, curing infection, or relieving pain.

Almost all the parts of plants such as the seed, leaves, stem and bark are used for medicines. Some of these plants such as water leaf, bitter leaf, etc. are used for making vegetables soups, tea, zobo, etc.

Medicinal plants are called herbs. Common herbs in Nigeria are –

1. Water leaf

2. Bitter leaf

3. Ginger

4. Garlic

5. Moringa plant

6. Mango leaves, roots and bark

7. Animal fat, etc.

 

BENEFITS OF MEDICINES 

The benefits of using medicines are as follows:

1. It is used for treating sickness and diseases.

2. It is used for preventing sickness and diseases.

3. It is used for treating wound or injuries.

4. It is used for healing any forms of diseases.

5. It makes use strong and healthy again.

 

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the pupils have learned.

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.

3. Teacher displays sample of cotton and chart showing different plants used for producing clothing.

4. Teacher lets the pupils examine, identify and discuss the importance of cotton wool.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on agriculture as source of raw materials for producing clothing.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on agriculture as a source of raw materials for producing clothing and appreciate the benefits of clothing.

6. Teacher uses chart showing different parts of plants and animals used for medicines to guide class discussion on the agriculture as source of materials for making medicines.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion and analyze the importance of agriculture as source of materials for making herbs in their communities.

7. Teacher organizes an excursion to the nearest clothing weaving factory or traditional herbal shop. If available and cloth to the school or if the school can sponsor it the excursion.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate in the trip to appreciate the importance of agriculture as source of materials used for clothing and medicines.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
