CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION TO HOME ECONOMICS
Home economics is the study that focuses on different aspects of home management and running of a household.
This study covers development of skills such as family and child rearing, cooking, nutrition, budgeting, home management, sewing, and importance of family and community involvement, health and well-being, sustainable practices, and consumer education.
The study of Home Economics also equips individuals with practical skills and knowledge necessary for maintaining a home and managing its resources effectively.
In recent years, home economics covered how to maximize the use of available resources by minimizing waste and promoting sustainability in the home.
LESSON 2 – THE SCOPE OF HOME ECONOMICS
Home economics teaches individuals valuable life skills that contribute to the well-being of individuals, families, communities, and the environment.
The areas within the scope of home economics are as follows:
1. Cooking and nutrition
2. Household management
3. Family and child development
4. Clothing and textiles:
5. Home design and decoration
6. Consumer education
7. Personal finance
8. Food safety and sanitation
9. Community and environmental sustainability
COOKING AND NUTRITION
Cooking and Nutrition covers the aspect of learning and practicing cooking skills, understanding the nutritional value of different foods, meal planning, and promoting healthy eating habits.
HOUSEHOLD MANAGEMENT
Household management is the study that manage household finances, budgeting, and understanding economic principles related to consumer decision-making, resource allocation, and financial planning.
FAMILY AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Family and child development is the study of family dynamics, parenting skills, child development, and fostering healthy relationships within the family unit.
CLOTHING AND TEXTILE
Clothing and textile is the study of fabric selection, garment construction, clothing care, and understanding the social and cultural aspects of clothing.
HOME DESIGN AND DECORATION
Home design and decoration the study of interior design principles, furniture arrangement, color schemes, and creating a welcoming and functional home environment.
CONSUMER EDUCATION
Consumer education is the study of consumer rights, responsible purchasing decisions, and the impact of consumer choices on the environment and society is also a part of home economics.
PERSONAL FINANCE
Personal finance provides practical knowledge on managing personal finances, including budgeting, saving, investing, and making informed financial decisions.
FOOD SAFETY AND SANITATION
Food safety and sanitation educates individuals on proper food handling and storage techniques to prevent foodborne illnesses and maintain sanitary conditions in the kitchen.
COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Community and environment sustainability is the study that promotes environmentally friendly behaviors, such as waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and promoting a healthy environment.
REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the pupils have learned.
2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.
3. Teacher displays chart showing various scope of home economics for the pupils to identify and discuss within one another.
4. Teacher listens and participates in the group discussion to related the lesson and broaden the pupils and their group understanding.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss various areas of home economics.
5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on meaning of home economics.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on meaning of home economics.
5. Teacher uses the chart to guide and leads a class discussion on the scope of home economics.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion and appreciate the importance of home economics in their daily activities in home and the community at large.
6. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
