CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
MEANING OF FOOD
Foods are solid or liquid substances that gives essential nutrients to the body.
There are different kind food.
Some are in solid form while others are in liquid.
COMMON FOOD IN OUR LOCALITY
1. Solid foods
Example of solid foods are rice, bean, eba, fufu, etc.
2. Liquid foods
Liquid foods are pap, custard, tea, juice, etc.
3. Fruit foods
Fruits are in both solid and liquid forms.
REASONS FOR EATING FOOD
We eat foods for the following reasons,
1. for daily energy.
2. for protection against diseases.
3. for clear vision.
4. for growth.
5. for cleansing.
6. for social activities.
LESSON 2 – KINDS OF FOOD AND THEIR SOURCES
1. BODY BUILDING FOOD
Food that helps the body to grow and repair the worm out tissue is called protein.
Protein is a body building food.
Source of body building food includes – bean, meat, fish, eggs, cheese, milk, etc.
3. ENERGY GIVING FOOD
Energy giving foods are known as carbohydrate. It keeps the body warm and energy to the body.
Source of energy giving food includes – yam, rice, bread, garri (eba), cocoyam, etc.
4. BODY PROTECTOR FOOD
Vitamins and minerals are body protector foods. They fight against the diseases in the body.
Source of body protector food includes – fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, liver, fish, etc.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Asks pupils to define food and states reasons for eating of food.
