PREVIOUS LESSON – MEANING AND COMPONENTS OF CIVIC EDUCATION (PRIMARY 5)

TOPIC: OUR RIGHTS 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. identify his/her rights.

2. explain the meaning of child right laws.

3. know his/her duties as a citizen.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of posters, pictures and video clips.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

 

OUR RIGHTS

Our rights are those things we should enjoy as citizens of our country.

They are:

1. The right to life.

2. The right to personal freedom.

3. The right to fair hearing in court.

4. The right to private family life.

5. The right to adopt a religion.

6. The right to express ourselves.

7. The right to peaceful association.

8. The right to vote and be voted for.

9. The right to live in any part of Nigeria.

10. The right to own property.

 

CHILD RIGHT LAWS

Child Right Laws are laws to safeguard a child.

 

OUR DUTIES

Some of our duties as a citizens to make our country (Nigeria) a better place, as follows:

1. Obey the laws of the country and those in authority.

2. Respect the values of our society.

3. Show loyalty to our country by respecting the national flag, reciting the national pledge, and singing the national anthem.

4. Uphold the good name of Nigeria.

5. Defend Nigeria by serving her in any way you are asked to serve.

6. Do everything you can to make the community in which you live a better place.

7. Help government agencies to maintain law and order. Citizens should give the police any information they need in the course of their work.

8. Pay taxes promptly.

9. Vote during elections.

 

We must learn them and begin to practise them.

 

 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads and guides pupils to list the right of a citizen.

Pupil’s Activities – List the right of a citizen.

3. Guides pupils to state the meaning of child right laws.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of child right laws.

4. Leads and guides pupils to know and understand his/her duties as a citizen.

Pupil’s Activities – Understand his/her duties as a citizen.

 

CONCLUSION 

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – why we study Civic Education.

1. identify 5 rights of a citizen.

2. explain the meaning of child right laws.

3. mention 5 duties of a citizen.
