By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. explain the concept of state government.
2. recognize the state logo and motto.
3. state the composition and functions of the state government.
4. explain the importance of state government to the people.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils can identify their residential and state of origin. Probably, the name of their governor.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts showing the governor of the state and its accompaniments.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Government is the body of people who control public affairs of a nation at the federal, state and local level.
State Government is another level of government that is more closer to the people than the federal government.
CONCEPT OF STATE GOVERNMENT
State Government is a body of people who control public affairs of the state level.
The affairs of many local governments is under the state government.
A state government is much bigger than the local government.
The state government is headed by a governor and assisted by a commissioner, special advisers, etc.
The state motto is ______.
IMPORTANCE OF STATE GOVERNMENT
The duties of a state government are –
1. Construction and maintenance of roads.
2. Provision of social amenities. Some of the amenities include markets, schools, clinics, wards, etc.
3. Provision of security.
4. Making policies for easy administrations.
5. Ensure equality among the people.
6. Maintaining laws and orders.
ASSIGNMENT
1. Find out the number of local governments in ______ state.
2. State 5 local governments in ______ state.
3. What is the ______ state motto?
4. What is your state of origin?
5. State 5 local government in your state of origin. The local government must include the local government of your state of origin.

LESSON 2 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Displays chart/almanac showing the governor and some of the its accomplishments.
3. Asks the pupils if they know or have see the person on the chart/almanac. If yes, ask them who is he/she?
Pupil’s Activities – Identify the governor of their state.
4. Uses the chart/almanac to introduce the lesson and explain the concept of state government.
Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction and explain the concept of state government.
5. Asks the pupils to examine the chart/almanac again, guide to identify some of the accomplishments of the governor.
6. Uses the accomplishments to lead a discussion on the importance of state government.
Pupil’s Activities – Itemize the importance of the state government in order to participate actively in the lesson discussion.
7. Allow the pupils to analyze the benefits of the state government in their local government.
Pupil’s Activities – Analyze the benefits of the state government in their local government.
8. Summarizes the each lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary and write as instructed.
