The pupils can identify the eyes, nose, skin, etc.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing the sense organ (nose)

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

There are five sense organs – eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin.

The organ for the sense of smell is the nose. Nose has nostrils, we breathe in and breathe out through our nostrils.

 

IMPORTANCE OF NOSE 

1. It allows air enter our body. That’s, it helps to breathe in and breathe out.

2. It provides us with sense of smell.

3. It enables us to detect pleasant and unpleasant.

4. It helps us in the sense of taste.

 

 

LESSON 2 – MEANING AND TYPES SMELL

WHAT IS A SMELL? 

Smell is something you identify or recognize by breathing in through your nose.

 

 

TYPES OF SMELL 

Their types of smell – pleasant and unpleasant smells.

1. PLEASANT SMELL is a pleasing smell. It is a smell that gives us good odour.

Examples of pleasant smell are as follows:

1. Perfume

2. Fresh fruits, meat, fish, etc.

3. Clean clothes

4. Good food, etc.

 

2. PLEASANT SMELL is a smell that is not pleasing. The smell is very sour, offensive and gives us a bad odour.

Examples of unpleasant smell are as follows:

1. Rotten fruits, meat, fish, etc.

2. Dirty socks

3. Spoilt food

4. Decaying plants and animals , etc.

 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the pupils have learned.

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.

3. Teacher displays chart showing the nose.

4. Teacher points to the chart and asks the pupils as group, what is this?, what is it use for?

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify nose as a sense organ and state its important.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the meaning and Importance of nose as sense organ.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on the meaning and Importance of nose as sense organ.

6. Teacher displays both pleasant and unpleasant substances in covered and different containers.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils examine and identify good and bad smell.

7. Teacher uses both substances to leads the pupils to identify, define, differentiate between pleasant and unpleasant substances, given appropriate examples for each.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate differentiate between pleasant and unpleasant substances, given appropriate examples for each.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
