MEANING/DEFINITION OF THEORY OF MUSIC
Theory of music is the study of music in its entirety, how music works, the language and notation, and elements of music.
FUNDAMENTALS OF MUSIC
1. Pitch
2. Melody
3. Harmony
4. Rhythm
5. Texture
6. Timbre
7. Quality
8. Form or structure
NOTES ON THE KEYBOARD
A musical keyboard is the set of adjacent depressible levers or keys on a musical instrument. There are seven natural notes on a piano: C, D, E, F, G, A, B.
LESSON PRESENTATION
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES – The teacher,
1. defines the theory of music.
2. outlines and explains the fundamentals of music.
3. leads the class in discussion on fundamentals of music.
4. guides the students to represent the appropriate notation in their manuscripts e.g pitch, rhythm, texture etc.
5. guides the students to identify and draw notes on the keyboard.
6. summarizes the lesson on the board.
STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES – The students,
1. participate in the class discussion.
2. use their manuscripts to write notes.
3. draw the different lines, spaces and name them. Sing or play the scale.
4. copy as the teacher writes.
LESSON EVALUATION
Teacher ask students to:
1. define and state the theory of music.
2. list the fundamentals of music.
3. mention two they have drawn in the music manuscripts.
