CONTENTS OF THE LESSON

FOCUS LESSONS 

MEANING OF TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

Traffic regulation are the official traffic rules made by the government and enforced by the road safety corps (FRSC).

The rules are made to guide road usage. Traffic regulations are laws that concern how motorist and other road users should move on the road.

The importance to traffic regulations are order to ensure the safety of road users and free flow of traffic, to develop and maintain a good road safety culture which will reduce road accident.

The road users include: motorist, pedestrians , motor cycle operators and so on. Every road user should be discipline, careful and considerate to others to ensure safe roads.

 

TRAFFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS 

The traffic regulations are as follows:

1. Obeying traffic officials and signs.

2. Avoid over speeding.

3. Use restricted road where it is marked “one way or no entry”.

4.Avoid over taking another vehicle wrongly.

6. Avoid driving a vehicle without valid leaner’s permit. Driver’s licence, vehicle particulars or any other permit required by law.

7. Avoid smoking, eating, drinking or making and receiving GSM calls while driving.

8. Do not obstruct a road marshal in the performance of his/her duty.

9. Must not drive a vehicle if under eighteen (18} years.

10. Never drive while under the influence of drugs or alcoholic drinks. Alcohol affects vision, reduces coordination and slow down reaction.

 

 

ROLES OF INDIVIDUALS IN MAINTAINING TRAFFIC REGULATION

1. Study all the traffic offences and signs, have them at their finger tips.

2. Individuals should not claim right of way, for claiming such rights may claim lives.

3. Doctors and nurses and health workers should attend to accident victims promptly.

4. Every driver as an individual should rest for 15 minutes after every.

4 hours of driving and avoid driving for more than 10 hours in a day.

5. Commercial motorist and private individuals should undergo traffic training for proper education on road usage in a driving school.

6. Volunteers as individuals should stop to help every traffic crash.

 

ROLES OF GOVERNMENT IN MAINTAINING TRAFFIC REGULATION

1. Provision of good roads/ road marks and Signs.

2. Provision and erection of traffic lights.

3. Enactment and enforcement of traffic laws.

4. Periodic inspection of vehicles on the road.

5. Punishment of traffic offenders.

6. Establishment, equipping and training of traffic enforcement agency.

7. Issuance of driver’s license to only qualify drivers.

8. Provision of high way code.

9. construction of speed bumps on the road.

10. Installation of cctv camera at cross section of the road.

 

 

ROLES OF FEDERAL ROAD SAFETY CORPS(FRSC) IN CURBING ROAD ACCIDENTS

1. Assisting to minimize road accident through their presence on the high way.

2. Clearing obstruction on the high way.

3. Educating road users.

4. Issuing driver’s license.

5. Disciplining/penalizing erring drivers.

6. Checking vehicle particulars/driver’s license.

7. Standardizing high way traffic codes.

8. Regulating the use of sirens.

9.Ensuring road worthiness of a vehicle.

10. Cooperating with other relevant bodies in ensuring traffic regulations
