PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. state different job in agriculture.
2. identify means of generating income in agriculture.
3. demonstrate how Agricultural produce can be sold to generate money.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can identify and state agricultural produces.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Pictorial display of people planting crop, rearing animals, processing agricultural products, selling agricultural products.
2. Simple chart or pictures showing the importance of Agriculture in Nigeria.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Agriculture is one of the oldest and most important occupations of mankind. The main occupation of the most Nigerian rural settlements is farming. While in urban areas, they involved in buying agricultural products from the farmers and selling these products to people in the cities.
AGRICULTURE AS SOURCE OF EMPLOYMENT
Agriculture creates a lot job opportunities for people in the youth. The following are employment opportunities in agriculture,
1. Crop production
2. Animal production
3. Marketing agricultural produces or products
4. Fisheries
5. Agric processing
6. Agric engineering
7. Soil science
8. Farm management
9. Food science
10. Plants and animals science
CROP PRODUCTION
Crop production is the process of growing food and cash crops for domestic and commercial purposes. For examples – rice, wheat, maize, jute, etc.
ANIMAL PRODUCTION
Animal production is the process of producing fish, meat, eggs and dairy products for commercial purpose. This includes feeding, breeding, housing and caring for animals and marketing.
AGRIC MARKETING
Agric marketing is the process of buying agricultural products from the farm and sell them to the consumer.
AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING
Agricultural Engineering is the area of engineering that deals with the design, construction and improvement of farming equipment and machinery.
FISHERIES
A fishery is an area where fish are breed or caught in the river or ocean for commercial.
AGRICULTURAL PROCESSING
Agricultural processing is the area that value to agricultural products by transforming, packaging, sorting, or grading crops or livestock products. For examples – milo, bourvita, titus, etc.
SOIL SCIENCE
Soil science is the study of soil formation and fertility in relation to the production of food.
LESSON 2 – AGRICULTURE AS A SOURCE OF INCOME FOR FARMERS
WHO IS A FARMER?
A farmer is the one who grows crops and rears animals for domestic or commercial purposes.
AGRICULTURE AS SOURCE OF INCOME FOR FAMER
Agriculture is the main source of income for farmers and those in agriculture. Farming on a very large scale generate a lot of money for the farmers through selling of their farm products.
The grains, tubers, fruits and vegetables, fish, eggs, meat and dairy products are great source of income for farmers.
REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the pupils have learned.
2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.
3. Teacher displays chart showing different people in agriculture.
4. Teacher lets the pupils examine, Identify and discuss the nature of job on the chart.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils discuss different kind of job done on the farm.
5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on agriculture as source of employment.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the introduction and participate actively in the class discussion, state and discuss employment opportunities in agriculture.
6. Teacher uses chart showing market where agricultural products are sold to lead a class discussion on how agricultural products are bought and sold at the market.
7. Teacher organizes a short play on how agricultural products are bought and sold at the market.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the short play by demonstrating how on agricultural products are bought and sold at the market.
8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
