LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. identify packaged materials.

2. justify the importance of packaged goods.

3. assemble materials used for packaging processed goods.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify materials appropriate for different processed goods.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of sample of package food or chart showing processed food.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

PACKAGING

Packaging are materials used for wrapping or protecting goods for distribution, storage, sale or personal use.

 

PACKAGING MATERIALS 

Materials used for packaging processed goods are,

1. Cup

2. Can

2. Plastic

3. Bottle

4. Polythene

5. Paper and paperboard

6. Drum/barrels

7. Cages

8. Boxes

9. Aluminium foil

10. Trays, etc.

 

 

LESSON 2 – IMPORTANCE OF PACKAGING

The importance of packaging goods are –

1. It protects the goods.

2. It promotes the goods.

3. It attracts consumers.

4. It differentiates goods from one another.

5. It increases sales.

6. It provides information about the goods. For examples – manufacture date, expiry date, etc.

7. it enhances usability.

8. It increases shelf life of the food.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,

1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson review.

2. Displays samples of goods with different packaging or chart showing different materials used for packaging goods.

3. Lets pupils identify, examine and different the packaging materials.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify and state each of the materials used for packaging each goods.

4. Guides pupils to analyze and justify the importance of packaging.

Pupil’s Activities – Analyze and justify the importance of packaging.

6. Organizes a trip to the nearest supermarket where there are different packaged processed goods.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the excursion to identify different materials used for packaging processed food to justify the importance of packaging as discussed in the lesson.

7. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson summary and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
