CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Food is any nutritious substance that people eat or drink in order to maintain life and growth. We eat food to stay alive and healthy. The food we eat or drink consists of protein, carbohydrate, fat, and other nutrients used in the body support growth and maintain healthy life.

The animals eat food like people but the plants absorb their food from the soil.

 

TYPES OF FOOD IN NIGERIA

Most of food we eat in Nigeria is often made from plant or animal and they contain essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals.

The types of food that we eat in our local are,

1. Plant source – yam, bean, rice, cassava, vegetables, fruits, etc.

2. Animal source – goat, chicken, egss, fish, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – TYPES OF FOOD WE EAT IN OUR LOCALITY

Nigerian food is prepared with so many different colors, flavors, and ingredients. Most of the food in our locality are eaten independently or with other foods. For example – jollof rice is eaten with moin moin, salad, chicken, etc.

Here are the types of food we eat in our locality,

1. White rice, Jollof rice and fried rice

2. Pounded yam (commonly called iyan among the Yoruba)

3. Amala, eba, tuwo, semo, etc.

4. Ogbono soup, vegetable soup, pepper soup, egusi soup, mixed okra soup, etc.

5. Puff puff, chin chin, puff puff, etc.

6. Akara, moin moin, kuli kuli, etc.

7. Roasted meat (suya), smoke fish, crayfish, etc.

9. Porridge yam and potatoes (asaro)

10. Seafood – fish, crab, crayfish, etc.

11. Fruits – oranges, mangoes, pineapples, cucumbers, etc.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Tecayer displays charts showing different types of food in our immediate locality for the pupils to identify and state their favorite.

4. Teacher uses the chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and class discussion on the meaning of food and types of food in Nigeria.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on the meaning of food and types of food in Nigeria.

5. Teacher leads the pupils to state the types of food in their locality.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils state and appreciate different types of food in their locality.

6. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
