COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS

Physical fitness is the ability of the body systems to work together efficiently and perform daily activities that allow ones to be healthy. There are twelve (12) components of physical fitness and classified into,

1. Health Related Physical Fitness

2. Performance Related Physical Fitness

 

COMPONENTS OF HEALTH RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS

Health related physical fitness is the ability to work on a daily basis like cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, body composition, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

1. Cardiovascular Endurance is the ability to perform moderate to vigorous intensity exercise (such as jogging, running, fast cycling, fast swimming, and walking briskly up a hill) for a prolonged period of time.

2. Muscular Strength is ability to move and lift objects such as weight. That’s, how many times you can move an object without getting tired or exhausted.

3. Body Composition is the ratio of body weight to the amount of fat in the body.

4. Muscular Endurance is the ability of a muscles to perform a single exercise (such as Walking lunges, pushups, crunches or plank) for a period of time.

5. Flexibility is the ability to move muscles and joints through its fullest range of motion without facing stiffness or pain.

 

 

COMPONENTS OF PERFORMANCE RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS 

Performance (Skills) related physical fitness is the ability to perform well in sports and other physical activities including agility, accuracy, power, reaction time, speed, balance and coordination.

1. Agility is the ability to change position rapidly in space with speed and accuracy.

2. Accuracy is the ability to move the body’s force towards particular direction. In the sports like javelin throw, long jump, high jump, etc. for examples.

3. Power is the rate at which one can perform a task (such as in running or swimming) in a short period of time.

4. Reaction Time is the rate within space or the amount of time it takes time to react to an action.

5. Speed is the ability to cover a distant within a short period of time.

6. Balance is the ability to maintain an up right posture in a stationary position.

7. Coordination is the ability to be in control.
