By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives – state punishment for various crimes such as false pretense, fraud and burglary.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Punishment is a penalty or sanction given for people that have intentionally committed crime(s) or offense. It may take forms ranging from capital punishment, flogging, forced labour, mutilation of the body to imprisonment and fines.

Crimes such as false pretense, fraud and burglary are forbidden and punishable by law.

 

 

MEANING OF FALSE PRETENSE, FRAUD AND BURGLARY 

FALSE PRETENSE is a deliberate act to mislead or deceive people to belief you or your liesk. The main purpose of misleading people is to defraud them or to obtain title to money or property. In other words, it means to pretend to be somebody or something else.

 

FRAUD is a deliberate act to manipulate people for personal or financial gain. The person who commits fraud is called fraudster. The activities of fraudster are suspicious on your account(s) that you know nothing about and unauthorize. 

False pretense and fraud are under the same criminal code. According to the code of section 419, the punishment for false pretense is 3 or 7 years imprisonment depending on the crime.

 

BURGLARY is an illegal entry of a building such as house, shop, office, bank, etc. with intent to commit a crime such as theft or stealing. The person who commits burglary is called burglar. 

House breaking is similar to burglary. The different is, house breaking occurs in the daytime, burglary occurs during night time.

The punishment for housebreaking is imprisonment for 14 years and for burglary, it is imprisonment for life (section 411 CC). An attempt to commit the offence attracts 7 years imprisonment while that of burglary it is imprisonment for 14 years (section 412 CC).

 

 

LESSON 2 – HOW TO PREVENT FALSE PRETENSE, FRAUD AND BURGLARY 

FALSE PRETENSE AND FRAUD 

1. You must know the person you are dealing with.

2. You must never send money a stranger.

3. You must never reply a message for personal or financial information.

4. You must always check your monthly statement of account.

5. You must treat all transactions the same way.

6. You must not be greedy.

7. You must report suspicious activity.

8. You must protect your online information.

9. You must monitor your accounts from time to time.

10. You must be careful before send any information.

 

 

BURGLARY

1. Put your ladder away.

2. Use iron door and burglary window.

3. Keep all your valuable items safe and hidden.

4. Be careful what you post on social media.

5. Don’t put your valuable item away from the window.

6. Install security alarm and CCTV camera.

7. Be sure that all your locks are working perfectly.

8. Don’t advertise your absent.

9. Don’t leave your spare key out such as under flower pot, doormat or box.

10. Report any strange movement around your apartment.

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) – As stated in the performance objectives or weekly assessment. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into two or more groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing burglary and asks the groups to discuss the chart contents.

4. Teacher asks pupils, the act is called what? Welcome different responses.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils respond, it is stealing, theft, robbery, house breaking, burglary, ole, etc.

5. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson – Punishment for Various false pretense, fraud and burglary.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction understand the concept of lesson.

6. Teacher uses the drama or video clip to lead a class discussion on the meaning and punishment for false pretense, fraud and burglary.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils analyze the importance of punishing anybody caught in false pretense, fraud and burglary.

8. Teacher guides pupils to identify and state how to prevent false pretense, fraud and burglary.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils analyze the importance of security consciousness.

7. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summarizes of the lesson by responding to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
