By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. mention the precaution to be taken in time of flood.

2. discuss the precaution to be taken in time of fire outbreak, wildfire, road accident, etc.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

There are other things that can harm us. The things are that sometimes out of control but most time we can put them in check if we care about ourselves and our environment.

Environment is everything that is around us. There are a lot of things around us. The plants and animals, stones, rivers, etc. Living things living in their environment, they constantly interact with it and find ways to adapt themselves to conditions in their environment.

One of the ways they adapt to the condition in their environment is taken necessary actions not to destroy them or harm themselves. These necessary actions are called security precaution in the environment. It is very important to take necessary actions in time of flood, fire outbreak (wildfire) and road accidents.

 

PRECAUTIONS IN TIME OF FLOOD 

A flood is when water covers land that is normal dry. Rivers, canals, streams, lakes and other body of water have their limit but when water rises above its limits or boundaries to take places, it is called flood.

The following are security precaution in time of flood are as follows:

 

BEFORE A FLOOD

1. Be aware of flash flood areas such as canals, streams, drainage channels.

2. Do not dump refuse in the gutter, canal or any waterway.

3. Always clear the gutter and canal from time to time.

4. Do build any structure on drainage.

5. Planting of tree.

6. Do not cut tree without planting new ones.

 

DURING A FLOOD

1. Be aware of flash flood areas such as canals, streams, drainage channels.

2. Be ready to evacuate or relocate.

3. Turn off main switches and unplug all the appliances.

4. Do not walk through moving water.

 

AFTER A FLOOD

1. Stay away from flood water.

2. Do not attempt to swim, walk or drive through the area.

3. Stay away from power line areas

4. Stay away from muddy waters.

5. Do not drink water from the tap or any other source until it is safe for drinking.

 

LESSON 2 – PRECAUTIONS IN TIME FIRE OUTBREAK AND WILDFIRE

Fire outbreak is a sudden increase of fire. While a wildfire is an unplanned and uncontrolled fire that burns in a forest or grassland. If fire outbreak and wildfire are not properly check and control, it can destroy lives (including the wildlife) and prosperities.

The following are security precaution in time of fire outbreak and wildfire are as follows:

 

AS DRIVER(S)

1. Do not play with fire.

2. Do not smoke and drink.

3. Install good electrical wiring.

4. Repair faulty electrical appliances.

5. Buy good home and electrical appliances.

6. Connect gas cooker and cylinder properly.

7. Make use of original cylinder.

8. Do not use cell phone at the filling or gas station.

9. Don’t play in the kitchen.

10. Do not set bush on fire.

 

LESSON 3 – PRECAUTIONS IN TIME ROAD ACCIDENTS 

Road accidents are unexpected events that can injure or kill people. occurs when a vehicle collides with another vehicle, pedestrian, animal, road debris, or other moving or stationary obstruction, such as a tree, pole or building.

Dear children, when you get your car(s), take note the following are security precaution in time of road accidents are as follows:

1. Develop the right attitude about driving.

2. Get as much supervised practice driving as possible.

3. ALWAYS wear your safety belt.

4. Underage drinking and drug use is illegal.

5. Limit your passengers.

6. Limit your night driving.

7. Keep it slow and safe for starters.

8. Train for poor weather conditions.

9. Cell phones are for emergency use only on the road.

10. Drive a safe vehicle.

 

AS PEDESTRIAN(S)

A person walking rather than travelling in a vehicle. When you walking, take note of the following precautions on the roads:

1. Follow the road signs and signals.

2. Walk on walkway if they are available.

3. If there is no walkway, walk facing traffic. Don’t back the traffic.

4. Cross the roads at zebra crossing or use the pedestrian bridge.

5. Look left and right for cars in all directions.

6. Avoid drinking and smoking when walking because they affect your judgment.

 

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps –

1. Teacher revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in lesson review.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart or play short showing the danger of flooding, fire outbreak, wildfire and road accident.

4. Teacher allows the groups to examine, identify and discuss.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss the dangers of flooding, fire outbreak, wildfire and road accident.

4. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction.

5. Teacher asks the pupils to state how to prevent flooding, fire outbreak, wildfire and road accident.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils answer the questions.

6. Teacher uses the pupils relevant responses in activity 5 to lead a class discussion on the security precaution in time of flooding, fire outbreak, wildfire and road accident.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate activity in the class discussion and appreciate the importance of taken necessary precautions in time of flooding, fire outbreak, wildfire and road accident.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
