By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
mention the nutrients in the foods we take.
Types of food
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Pupils’ textbook
2. Pictures showing groups of food and their nutrients.
3. Real objects of food from their locality.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
Teacher’s Activities – Asks the pupils to define food.
Pupil’s Activities – Food is what we eat and drink that makes us grow.
Teacher’s Remark – What make us grow in foods are called food nutrients and can be classified as follows –
THE NUTRIENTS IN THE FOODS WE EAT
The Nutrients in the food we take are:
Carbohydrates are foods that supply heat and energy to play.
For example – bread, eba, amala, fufu rice, noodles, bread and other products that have grains.
Proteins are foods that build the body and repair body tissue.
For example – rice, beans, dairy products, fish, meat, eggs.
Vitamins are foods that help to fight against diseases in the body.
For example – fruits and vegetables
4. Fats and Oil
Fat and oil are foods that keep the warm and give energy to the body.
They are found in foods like meat, fish, whole eggs, vegetables, nuts.
Minerals are Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium and Zinc. Minerals can be found meat, fish, poultry, grains.
Water support life and needed on regular basis.
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Leads the pupils through guided questions to say the nutrients we get from different foods e.g.
Pupil’s Activities – Pupils draw different types of food and say the importance to growth.
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
