By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives – differentiate between the two categories of crime,

1. explain the concept of criminal behaviour.

2. state some of the examples of criminal behaviour.

3. discuss some of the criminal behaviours.

4. state and discuss the factors affecting criminal behaviour.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

A crime is an illegal act or an offence for which a person can be punished by the authority.

A criminal is the person who commits a crime.

Examples of crime are as follows – Falsehood, Theft, Rape, Murder, Advance free fraud (419), Sales of contaminated food, Dealing in fake hard drugs, etc.

 

 

MEANING OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOURS

Criminal behaviours are unacceptable behavior in any community.

These kinds of behaviour are unlawful in nature.

For example, stealing, fighting, etc.

 

COMMON CRIMINAL BEHAVIORS 

Common criminal behaviours are as follows –

1. Falsehood

2. Fighting

3. Theft

4. Bodily harm

5. Forgery

6. Examination malpractice.

7. Sellers of bad food and fake drugs, etc.

 

 

LESSON 2 – FACTORS AFFECTING CRIMINAL BEHAVIOURS 

Factors that affect criminal behaviours are as follows –

1. Poverty

2. Poor housing

3. Low self esteem

4. Poor diet

5. Inequality

6. Greediness

7. Self interest

8. Impulsivity

 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organize the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher asks pupils as groups to state the difference between good and bad behaviours using appropriate examples.

Pupil’s Activities – The teacher differentiate between good and bad behaviours.

4. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant to introduce the lesson – criminal behaviours.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils attention to the lesson introduction.

5. Teacher explains the concept of criminal behaviours and asks the pupils to give examples of criminal behaviours.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils listen to the teacher’s explanation and give appropriate examples of criminal behaviours.

6. Teacher leads a class discussion on the factors that responsible for criminal behaviours.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils state and analyze the factors that responsible for criminal behaviours.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in summary summary by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.
