PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the concept of neighbourhood.

2. state some of the things that made up of the neighbourhood.

3. explain the meaning and importance of neighbourhood security.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can mention five or more things in their neighbourhood.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing Lagos State Neighborhood Security Officers.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

A neighbourhood is a specific area or community within town or city. It is a place where people live, work, and interact with each other. A neighbourhood is made of a group of houses or buildings that are located with physical boundaries or natural landmarks. It is an important unit within a city or town, providing a sense of community and serving as a microcosm of the larger urban environment.

 

THINGS THAT MADE UP OF NEIGHBOURHOOD 

A neighbourhood is made up of the following –

1. People live, work, and interact with each other and other things.

2. Houses

3. Schools

4. Shops

5. Markets

6. Restaurants

7. Community centers

8. Parks

9. Borehole

10. Cars

11. Natural resources such as green grass, tree, river, etc.

 

 

LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTION TO NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY

Neighbourhood security is a community security that helps to protect the entire neighbourhood or community from any form of crime. A neighbourhood security is also called community security.

 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY

According to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corp, the following are aims and objectives of neighbourhood security,

1. Gathering information about crimes, crime in progress, suspicious activities and crime suspects among other things.

2. Making available such relevant information on rimes, crime in progress, suspicious activities and crime suspects to the police or other security agencies that require it.

3. Putting structure in place to ensure that hoodlums and cult groups do not have the opportunity to operate.

4. Undertaking routine motorized patrol day and night.

5. Reducing the crime rate and ensuring that offenders are identified and made to account for their misdeeds.

6. Following up on arrest of offenders to the court and ensuring justice.

7. Timely reporting of suspicious activities and crimes in progress to the police or other security agencies and improving relationship between the police and the community as it concerns law enforcement.

8. Contributing to maintaining community peace.

 

IMPORTANCE (BENEFITS) OF NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY

Neighbourhood security assists the Police and other security agencies –

1. to maintain law and order within neighbourhood security.

2. to fight crime for a safer neighbourhood.

3. to create and enlighten the neighbourhood about security of their lives and properties.

4. to bring light to an important issue in the neighborhood.

5. to support the police in detecting crime.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Revises the previous lesson based the pupil’s related knowledge or understanding.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in group depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays a chart or picture showing a familiar community.

4. Teacher lets the pupils examine the chart and identify people, houses, shops, market, etc.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the meaning of neighbourhood.

6. Teacher asks each the group to state other things that made of the neighbourhood.

7. Teacher displays a chart or picture showing Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Officers.

8. Teacher uses the chart or picture and the pupils relevant responses to introduce and leads a class discuss on the importance of neighbourhood security in the society.

9. Teacher outlines and discuss the aim and objectives of neighbourhood security in Lagos State.

10. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the lesson evaluation and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
