1. explain the concept of neighbourhood.

2. discuss different types of neighbourhood.

3. identify the name of street in their neighbourhood.

The pupils can identify the street in their neighbourhood.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

A neighborhood is an area where people live, work and interact with one another. It is an important unit within a city or town, providing a sense of community and serving as a microcosm of the larger urban environment.

 

TYPES OF NEIGHBOURHOOD 

There different types of neighbourhood and they are as follows:

1. Urban Neighborhoods

2. Suburban Neighborhoods

3. Rural Neighborhoods

4. Residential Neighborhoods

5. Gated Communities

6. Mixed-Use Neighborhoods

7. Historic Neighborhoods

8. Waterfront Neighborhoods

 

 

LESSON 2 – TYPES OF NEIGHBOURHOOD 

1. Urban Neighborhoods – Urban neighbourhoods are neighbourhoods that are located within cities with highly populated area. Most of the urban neighbourhoods are residential, commercial and industrial places. They are busy neighbourhoods.

2. Suburban Neighborhoods are neighbourhoods are part of cities but mostly located outside of cities or their boarders. They are also known as suburban areas. They are less populated when compared with urban neighbourhoods.

3. Rural Neighborhoods are neighbourhoods that are mostly surrounded by farmland or natural landscapes. These type of neighbourhood are sparsely populated and peaceful areas.

4. Residential Neighborhoods are neighbourhoods where people live. They are built to provide a peaceful and safe environment for the people alone. There are no commercial and industrial activities.

5. Gate Neighbourhood are neighbourhoods that are surrounded by walls or fences with restricted entry points. Only the residents have free entry while the visitors entry are mainly based on permission of the residents. They are commonly known as estate. They are built with little or no commercial activities.

 

 

6. Industrial Neighborhoods are also known as industrial estates. They designed mainly for the production of goods and services with little or no residents.

7. Historic Neighborhoods are neighbourhoods with important historical and architectural values such as Badagry in Lagos, Obudu Mountain Resort in Calabar, Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, Erin Ijesha Waterfalls in Osun State, Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi, etc. They are well-preserved areas for reflecting the history and culture of the area. Historic neighborhoods are mostly cherished for their unique charm and attractiveness.

8. Waterfront Neighborhoods are neighbourhood that are located along the bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, or oceans. They have scenic views, full of recreational activities, and a unique lifestyle that occur mainly around the water.

9. Other types of neighbourhood are such as religion, health, academy, barrack, etc. Neighbourhoods are determined by their features. Sometimes, states and countries are places that can be regarded as neighbourhoods.

 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT

As stated in the performance objectives or lesson evaluation.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Teacher revises the previous lesson based the pupil’s related knowledge or understanding.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in group depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays a chart or picture showing different types of neighbourhoods.

4. Teacher lets the pupils examine the chart, identify and differentiate between neighbourhoods.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss different types of feature on the chart.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the types of neighbourhood.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion.

6. Teacher asks each the group to identify and discuss the types of their neighbourhoods.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils state and discuss different types of neighbourhood with examples from their neighbourhood and other places they have visited.

7. Teacher tasks the pupils as groups and individually to identify and describe other types of neighbourhood.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss other types of neighbourhood.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the lesson evaluation and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
