PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
1. recognize soil as part of our environment.
2. say the meaning of soil.
3. state the uses of soil.
ENTRT BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can identify and state the uses of soil.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of sample soil and chart showing the uses of soil.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES (SOIL AS PART OF OUR SURROUNDING)
Teacher,
1. takes the pupils out of the class to a playground. Gather some soil and ask the pupils, what is this? Expected response – soil or common name sand.
2. takes them back to the classroom.
3. tells the pupils, it is called soil.
4. Teacher’s remark – Just like the air, soil is everywhere and it is part of our surrounding.
MEANING OF SOIL
Soil is the top layer of the earth’s surface.
LESSON 2 – USES OF SOIL
Soil are used for many things. Some of them are follow:
1. Soil is used for building house, school, hospital, market, churche, mosque, etc.
2. Soil is used for making pot, cup, etc. (Note – making is used instead of moulding between of the pupils level).
3. Soil is used for planting rice, beans, vegetables and flowers.
4. Soil is used for making building materials like blocks, cement, roofing.
5. Soil is used for making bridges.
7. Soil is used for walking.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. Teacher takes the pupils round the school’s compound.
2. Teacher gathers some and ask the pupils, what is this? And guides the pupils to identify soil as component of the surrounding.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils touch and feel soil in the playground.
3. Teacher takes the pupils back to the class and uses their response to introduce the lesson – Soil as Part of Our Surrounding.
4. Teacher uses the sample soil to explain the meaning of soil.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify the soil as the top layer of the earth.
5. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class and give each group chart showing one or two uses of soil.
6. Teacher asks the groups to examine their chart to state the uses of soil.
Pupil’s Activities – The groups state the uses of soil as displayed in their respective chart.
7. Teacher summarizes lesson on the board by using lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to most of the questions and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
