PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. define agriculture.

2. list the importance of agriculture in Nigeria.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify and state agricultural products.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Pictorial display of people planting crop, rearing animals, processing agricultural products, selling agricultural products.

2. Simple chart or pictures showing the importance of Agriculture in Nigeria.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF AGRICULTURE 

Agriculture means growing of crops, rearing of animals, processing and selling of agricultural products. There are four components of agriculture as stated in its meaning.

1. Growing of crops like corn, rice, guinea corn, cassava, etc.

2. Rearing of animals like chicken, pig, goat, cattle, etc.

3. Processing, and

4. selling of agricultural products.

 

 

LESSON 2 – IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE 

Agriculture in Nigeria like the rest of the world serves as:

1. source of food.

2. income generation.

3. job creations or employment opportunities.

4. source of raw materials for the industries.

5. source of materials for cloth making, medicines, etc.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the pupils have learned.

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.

3. Teacher displays chart showing different agricultural products such as processed and unprocessed products for the pupils to identify and discuss the importance between the products.

The pupils discuss the relationship between the processed and unprocessed agricultural products.

4. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discuss on the meaning and importance of agriculture.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the introduction and participate actively in the class discussion and analyze the importance of agriculture in Nigeria.

5. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
