PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the students should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain what a recorder is.

2. position the finger on the recorder correctly.

3. blow sound correctly with the recorder.

4. state the uses of a recorder.

5. explain how to play the recorder.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify and describe a recorder as one of the musical instruments.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of two or more sample of recorders.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION (MEANING OF RECORDER) 

Recorder is a musical instrument made of wood or plastic that produces sound. The wooden recorder is the most preferable by the professionals while the plastic is common amongst the beginners. Wooden recorder can be made with different types of wood to give different sounds.

 

USES OF A RECORDER

The uses of recorder are as follows:

1. It teaches us to read music.

2. It is used for teaching music beginners.

3. It is used developing eyes and hands coordination.

4. It is used for sight reading and developing listening skills.

5. It is used developing strong lungs and breath control.

6. It is used for developing our listening skills.

7. It is used for developing our musical ear.

8. It is used for playing vocal music and other parts of musical instrument.

 

LESSON 2 – STEPS OF PLAYING THE RECORDER

There are five easy steps to master the recorder,

1. Get or purchase a recorder

2. Learn how to hold the recorder and blow to make sound.

3. Learn correct tonguing technique.

4. Learn the fingering chart.

5. Practice makes perfect!

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the students some questions; then, the teacher –

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing different types of recorder (wooden and plastic recorders).

4. Teacher asks the pupils as group to identify and describe the contents of the chart. Note, most of the pupils will identify the recorder as whistle. Use it to introduce the lesson – recorder.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and describe the recorder.

5. Teacher uses the chart and pupil’s relevant responses to introduce and leads a class discussion on  the meaning of recorder.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion.

6. Teacher displays sample sample of recorders, guides the pupils to hold, place the fingers correctly on the record and blow.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils hold, place the fingers correctly on the record and blow.

7. Teacher leads a class discussion on the uses of recorder.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils analyze the importance of recorder as a musical instrument.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board by using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson summary by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
