PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. differentiate between noise and music.
2. identify different source of noise and music.

The pupils can differentiate between music and nosie.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of tables and chairs, wooden clapper, teaching charts.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC
Music is a written signs representing vocal or instrumental sound. It is an organized sound that is pleasant.
Sound is different from music. There are two types of sound, organized and unorganized sounds. Music can be an organized or an unorganized sound. Organized is pleasant while unorganized sound is not pleasant.
Music is an organized sound, if it is pleasant but if it is not pleasant, it is called a noise.
SOURCES OF MUSIC SOUND
There are different source of sound – voice sound, instrumental sound and natural sound.
1. Voice sound is a sound produced by human and animals.
2. Instrumental sound is sound produced by musical instruments like drums, piano, etc.
3. Natural sound is sound produced by nature such as the trees, air, thunder, rivers, occurs, etc.
SOURCE OF NOISE
There are different source of noise,
1. Loud music
2. Transportation (traffic, rail, airplanes, etc.)
3. Generator
4. People
5. Fighting
6. Crisis such as accidents
7. Crying
8. Pain
LESSON 2 – IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC AND NOISE
IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC
1. It is pleasing to the body and soul.
2. It brings people together.
3. It improves your health and wellbeing.
4. It improves confidence and resilience.
5. It is fun.
6. It is used for communication.
IMPORTANCE OF NOISE
It is true that noise is unpleasant sound but some noises are necessary because,
1. It is a form of expression such as happiness, pain, crying, loss of family member, etc.
2. It serves as an emergency call for help or support to save, rescue or assist other people from danger, sickness, etc.
3. It serves as a mean of getting attention or make a point.
4. It is a call for celebration.
DISADVANTAGES OF NOISE
Exposure to loud noise can cause,
1. high blood pressure
2. heart disease
3. sleep disturbances
4. stress
5. distraction
6. hearing loss, stress
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.
3. Teacher asks the pupils in groups to make a list of 20 musicians in Nigeria.
4. Teacher asks pupils to describe the process of producing their music. Hint – such as using drum, microphone, etc.
5. Teacher lets pupils choose a presentative from their group or in pair to sing their favourite song.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils make a list of their favourite musicians and sing one or more of their songs.
6. Teacher uses chart showing musical instruments and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the meaning of music and nosie.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of lesson and participate actively in the class discussion.
7. Teacher leads the pupils in groups to state and discuss the different between music and noise.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils differentiate between music and noise.
8. Teacher guides pupils to state and discuss the source of music and nosie.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils state different sources of music and noise.
9. Teacher guides and leads pupils to identify the importance of music and noise in the societies.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion to analyze and appreciate the importance of music and noise in their communities.
10. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to most of the questions correctly and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
