CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Domestic animal is the rearing of animal for consumption purpose, commercial purpose or as pet Domestic animals are non wild animal that usually live close association with man.

 

TYPES OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS 

There are three (3) types of domestic animals – domestic pets, livestock (farm animals), and beasts of burden.

1. Domestic pets are animals that have mutual relationship with man. They are used for companions, entertainment and security. Cats, dogs, mouse, bird and rabbi are the most common companion domestic pet animals.

2. Livestock or farm animals are animals that are rear for food, fiber, labor or commercial purposes. Pigs, sheep, goats, cows, horses, and chickens are most common domestic farm animals.

3. Beast of burden are domestic animals that rear and train to carry out activities such as transportation (horse), plow the fields (oxen), carrying loads (donkey), travelling through the desert (caramel), etc.

 

 

LESSON 2 – DOMESTIC CHICKEN 

Domestic chickens are birds that are domesticated for eggs and meat production.

 

HOW TO CARE FOR CHICKEN? 

PRECONDITION

1. Know the type of chicken you want to rear.

2. Know the type of house you want to build for your chicks.

3. Know the type of feed to give to your chicks, whether locally made or ready made.

4. Do you have time?

REARING

1. You need to feed the chicks and change their water daily.

2. You need to be let out of the coop each morning and put into the coop at dusk each night to protect them from predators.

3. The coop and pen should be cleaned out weekly to maintain sanitation and odor control.

 

 

REASONS FOR DOMESTIC ANIMALS 

People domestic animals for different reasons such as,

1. Food production such as eggs and meat

2. Fibre Production such as clothing

3. Commercial purpose such as making profit

4. Companionship

5. Entertainment

6. Security

7. To carryout specific task such as transportation, carry load, etc.

 

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the pupils have learned.

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.

3. Teacher displays chart showing different types of domestic animals.

4. Teacher lets the pupils as a group identify and discuss the important reasons for domestic animals.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss the important reasons for domesticating animals.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on meaning and types of domestic animals.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on meaning and types of domestic animals.

5. Teacher uses the chart to guide the pupils to state the reasons for domestic animals.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion and appreciate the reasons for domestic animals.

6. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
