LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain why Jesus is our saviour.

2. describe the type of Saviour Jesus is.

3. state the significance of a Saviour.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Most of the pupils can narrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Picture or drawing of a prophet.

2. Picture or drawing of Jesus being arrested or being tried.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Bible Reading – Matthew 1:23

“A virgin will become pregnant and have a son, and he will be called Emmanuel” (which means, “God is with us”).

The difference between Emmanuel and Immanuel is the pronunciation from one language to the other, while both point to the same meaning with two different spellings.

Immanuel is original Hebrew name while Emmanuel is original Greek name.

 

 

WHY JESUS IS OUR SAVIOUR

Jesus is our Saviour because,

1. His name means Saviour.

2. He makes us right with God.

3. He cleans all our sins.

4. He paid the price for our freedom.

5. He is our only Saviour.

 

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:21

 

LESSON 2 – THE KINDS OF SAVIOUR THAT JESUS IS

According to Philippians 2:5 – 11, the kinds of Saviour that Jesus is are –

1. He never consider Himself to be equal with God.

2. His reputation was not a priority.

3. He is humble.

4. He is obedient.

5. He is compassionate.

6. He is forgiven.

7. He did His father work.

8. He challenged other to be like Him.

9. He is sympathetic to our needs.

10. He is prayerful.

11. He is steadfast.

12. He is obedient to His Father’s will.

13. He is faithful.

14. He is righteous.

15. He is pure.

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,

7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

THE IMPORTANCE OF A SAVIOUR

Jesus is our Saviour, the importance of our Saviour is

1. To save us.

2. To protect us.

3. To care for us.

4. To guide us.

5. To give us peace of mind, etc.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,

1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson review.

2. Asks pupils to state the similarity and different between Emmanuel and Immanuel.

Pupil’s Activities – State the similarity and different between Emmanuel and Immanuel. As stated in the lesson introduction.

3. Uses Matthew 1:21 to lead a discuss why Jesus is our Saviour.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion.

4. According to Philippians 2:5 – 11, guide the pupils to identify and state the kinds of saviour Jesus is.

Pupils Activities – List the kinds of saviour Jesus is.

5. Explains the importance of saviour.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen carefully to the teacher’s explain and state the importance of saviour.

6. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson summary and write as instructed.
