TOPIC – PREPARATION OF HOME MADE POLISH AND CLEANING AGENTS 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. Prepare home made polish and different types of cleaning agents.

2. Use the cleaning agents properly.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Kerosene/turpentine, candle wax, bar soap and palm oil.

 

2. Pawpaw, pineapple leaves, fine sand, detergent, grater, sauce pan, grind egg shell, wood ash, lime, and salt.

3. Wooden furniture, table, chairs, cupboards, shelves, cloth poles.

4. Galvanised iron, saucepan, pots, buckets, cutlery, water.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION 

Home made polish are polish make with local materials and used for cleaning furniture at home.

Home made cleaning agents are materials used for cleaning the household articles and equipments.

 

PREPARATION OF HOME MADE FURNITURE POLISH 

Materials needed for making home made polish and cleaning agents are –

1. Kerosene

2. Candles

 

3. Bar soaps

4. Boiling water

 

Procedures –

1. Gale the candle and soap

2. Place the grate mixture in an earth ware pot (or enamel pot) and add boiling water.

3. Stand the pot in boiling water and allow the content to melt.

4. Beat the method mixture thoroughly into a cream using a wooden spoon.

5. Add turpentine gradually and keep beating until the polish is perfectly blended.

6. Store in a good container and well cover.

 

PREPARATION OF HOME MADE CLEANING AGENTS 

Materials needed for making home made cleaning agents are –

1. Egg shell

2. Detergent

3. Broken China ware

 

Procedures –

1. Grind the egg shell and piece of China ware into fine powder.

 

2. Sift the mixture to smooth powder.

3. Mix the powder thoroughly with detergent powder.

4. Store in a covered container.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Revises the previous lesson based on the previous lesson or pupil’s knowledge.

2. Displays sample home made polish and cleaning agents.

3. Lets pupils examine and state their uses.

Pupil’s Activities – State the uses of home made polish and cleaning agents.

4. Uses the samples to introduce the lesson.

5. Provides all materials need for making home made polish and cleaning agents.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the lesson introduce and identify each of the materials displayed.

6. Uses the materials to prepares different samples of home made furniture polish and cleaning agents and displays in class.

Pupil’s Activities – Examine samples of home made furniture polish and cleaning agents displayed.

7. Leads pupils to itemised the steps in the production of home made polish and cleaning agent.

Pupil’s Activities – State the steps of making polish and cleaning agents following the steps.

  • Practice the steps of making polish and cleaning agents following the steps.

8. Demonstrates making of home made furniture polish and cleaning agents.

Pupil’s Activities – Make home made polish and cleaning agents. Display the products made.

9. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
