PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

mention and perform basic skill in Basketball – bouncing and passing.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Playground

2. Pictures

3. Textbooks

4. Balls

5. Whistle.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

 

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Activities – Get some balls and guide the pupils to bounce the ball five or more times and ask the pupils, what are you doing?

Pupil’s Activities – I am bouncing a ball.

Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for recognizing the activities. Ball bouncing is one of the basic skills in basketball. Take the pupils back to the class for further discussion on basic skills in basketball.

 

MORE ON PRACTICE ON BOUNCING 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guide the pupils to bounced –

1. the ball on the spot or on motion.

 

 

2. the ball while keeping eyes on his/her partner.

3. the ball with palm open and spread the ball.

 

LESSON 2 – PASSING BALL

Teacher’s Activities – Pair each pupil with one another and guide them to pass the ball to one another in pair. Ask the pupils to describe what they are doing.

Pupil’s Activities – We are throwing ball to one another.

Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for recognizing the activities. Throwing ball to one another is called passing. Passing is another basic skills in basketball. Continue the discussion and further activities in the class.

 

MORE ON PRACTICE ON BOUNCING 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guide the pupils to pass the ball to one another and throw inside the improvise basket.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Demonstrates the basic skills e.g. throwing (passing) and bouncing.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe teacher’s demonstrations. Practices the skills taught.

3. Observes pupils and assists them.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Pupils to perform bouncing and passing skills of basketball game.
