PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. perform simple athletic activities.
2. explain the health benefits of running, jumping and throwing etc.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Organizes a long distance for four primary 6 pupils and simple short distance race for the primary 1 pupils.
Asks the pupils to differentiate the different between the races. Listen to the pupils and summary their points on the board.
MEANING OF SHORT DISTANCE RACES
Short distance races are race we run for a short time.
Examples of Short Distance Races are –
1. 25 metres
2. 50 metres
3. 75 metres
The important skills to know in short distance race are –
1. The start
2. The Set
3. The race
4. The finish
HEALTH BENEFITS OF RUNNING
1. Build stronger muscles and bones.
2. leaner bodies.
3. Less risk of becoming overweight.
4. A lower chance of getting type 2 diabetes.
5. Lower blood pressure.
6. A better outlook on life.
WEEK 7
SAFETY RULES IN ATHLETICS
1. Follow the simple instructions.
2. Be friendly with one another.
3. Wear appropriate kits.
4. Run straight in case of 25, 50 and 75 metres.
5. Stay fit
6. Warm up and stretch
7. Stay hydrated
8. Follow a good diet
9. Get enough rest
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Demonstrates the events e.g 50metres (start from and finish).
Pupil’s Activities – observe the teacher’s demonstration in; running (start from and finish.
3. Explains safety rules.
Pupil’s Activities – Mention safety rules.
4. Supervises and corrects practice by pupils.
Pupil’s Activities – Practice the event.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
