PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. state the functions of local guard.

2. list the functions of vigilante group.

3. mention the functions of Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can state some of the functions of neighbourhood security.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing Lagos State Neighborhood Security Personnels.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Neighbourhood security personnel is a community security personnel that helps to protect the entire community from crime.

Neighbourhood security is also called local security personnel.

For examples – local guard, vigilante group, neighbourhood watch and Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps.

 

 

FUNCTIONS OF NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY

FUNCTIONS OF LOCAL GUARD 

Local guard is a private security with the following duties and responsibilities –

1. To protect lives and properties in their premises.

2. To prevent uninvited guest to gain access to the premises.

3. To keep records of all invited guests such as names, purposes, time in and out, etc.

4. To keep a thoroughly check in the case of emergency.

5. To alert the police and other security agencies of any issues beyond their strength.

6. To monitor movement within and around their premises.

 

 

LESSON 2 – CONTINUATION

FUNCTIONS OF VIGILANTE GROUP 

Vigilante group safer community and,

1. To protect lives and properties. 

2. To assist the Police and other security agencies to prevent crime. 

3. To maintain peace and order in the neighbourhood mostly at night.

To assist the police and other security agencies to fight within neighbourhood crimes.

To assist police and other security agencies to arrest criminal.

4. To give information to the police and other security agencies about criminal or wanted within the neighbourhood.

5. To make positive and useful contributions to the progress and well-being of people in the neighbourhood. 

6. To prevent all forms of criminal behaviour.

 

 

FUNCTIONS OF NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH 

Neighbourhood security watch assists the Police and other security agencies –

1. To watch over the neighbourhood properties.

2. To fight crime for a safer community.

3. to bring light to an important issue in the neighborhood.

4. To monitor crime performance and confidence in the neighbourhood.

5. To hear and monitor complaints from victims of crime in the neighbourhood.

6. To detect and prevent crimes.

 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Revises the previous lesson based the pupil’s related knowledge or  understanding.

2. Leads a discussion on the functions of local guards, vigilante groups, neighbourhood security watch and Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion and analysis the importance of each neighbourhood security.

3. Invites any local guard or vigilante within the neighbourhood to talk on their duties and responsibilities.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the invited guest and confirm the functions of neighbourhood security, ask questions and respond to all corresponding questions.

4. Summarizes each lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
