PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives – Identify and discuss the problems facing the government at different level.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOURS

The pupils can identify some of the problems facing the government such as poor infrastructure, etc.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing some of the common problems facing the government.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

A government is the system where group of people governing an organized community, often a state. The process of governing a state is more difficult at all levels of government.

Government in Nigeria consists of three separate levels,

1. The federal government

2. The state governments

3. The local governments.

Each of them has their own independent problems as well as collective problems. Independent problems are problems that are peculiar to a particular government while collective problems are problems that affect them all as a whole government. So also is their solutions.

 

SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS FACING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GOVERNMENT 

1. Improving the healthcare system.

2. Addressing poverty in this country.

3. Improving the system of education.

4. Addressing climate change.

5. Regular social media and finding ways to combat fake news.

6. Safeguarding human rights and freedoms.

7. Closing the economic and social gap.

8. Addressing gender discrimination and racism.

9. Encouraging active participation in government.

10. Develop a good economy and sharing formula.

11. Even development across the 36 states and FCT Abuja.

12. Widening the tax bracket.

 

 

LESSON 2 – SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS FACING THE STATE GOVERNMENT

1. The state must developing a good revenue generation policy.

2. The state must address the problems of bribery and corruption.

3. The state must grant the local government autonomy.

4. The state must develop a good infrastructure policy.

5. The state must invest in training and development of people.

6. The state must address the internal crisis and differences.

7. The state must close the gap between people and government.

8. The state must support the local businesses and industries.

 

 

SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS FACING THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT 

1. More money should be made available to the local government.

2. The local government should be given more power so that it can solve more problems for the people.

3. Corrupt and lazy workers of the local government must be found out and punished by government.

4. Local government activities must be made known to the people so that the people can monitor their progress, and cooperate towards success.

5. The local government should get closer to the people and know their problems so that they can solve them.

6. Regular and adequate maintenance of the existing infrastructures.

7. The autonomy of local government must be guarantee by the state and federal government.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based what he/she has taught the pupils or the lesson learnt by them.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depends on the size of class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing some of the problems at all levels of government for the pupils to identify, discuss and suggest appropriate solutions to each of the problems.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify, discuss and suggest appropriate solutions to each of the problems.

4. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce and leads a class discussion on the solutions to problems of government at all levels of government.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion.

5. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
